Quinn Makes the Record Book- Most Rebounds in Single Game in NTYC History
It was one for the record books on Wednesday night as the Celtics won the Summer Basketball Finals over the Bulls, 43-34, in double overtime, and one guy carried them on his shoulders when they needed it. A man named Alex Quinn. The "Beast from the East" made headlines and history in what is considered the best game ever played at Payne Park as he had a huge double-double with 33 points and 30 rebounds, breaking future hall of famer Donovan Book's record of 27, which he set back in the winter league two years ago against UConn, when he was at Syracuse. Before the game, the analysts made a predictions that he would get 25 points and 30 rebounds. Quinn finished the season with 144 points and 115 rebounds!
"When Alex heard that, it gave him a lot of motivation and made him hungrier than ever," said Celtics coach Yanni Malamas. Going into halftime, the Celtics were down 18-7, but the last place team turned it around when Drew Krantz came off the football field and helped them out. "Drew was a big help in the second half because in the first half we felt we were missing a piece, but once he showed up, we were able to do what we do best."
Krantz finished the game with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist. Connor Essenburg filled in Krantz's role during the first half as he had four assists. Essenburg and Quinn connected three times in a row, which helped them get back into the game.
On the other side, Trevor Book had 12 points, 3 rebounds and an assist for the Bulls, but with the pressure being drawn on him by Quinn and Krantz, he couldn't get his opportunities. "Trevor did a great job, but fate wasn't on our side," said Bulls head coach Derrick Bloomfield. "All I know is that Trevor can't wait until the winter league starts." Josh Farnsworth had 8 points, Jordan Fox had 4 points, and Nate Wilkinson, who came into the game during the second quarter, made a basket on his first opportunity, and finished with 6 points and 6 rebounds.
The other championship game between North Carolina, led by Ryan Bradt, who led the league with 100 points, and Louisville, which consists of Cory Mis, Aaron Woods, Bobby O'Connor, and James Monroe, also known as the Butterscotch Candies, will take place on Monday, August 27, at 7 pm.
